Welcome to the Phonics Phun Section of "123 Reading Road." To progress as readers, children need to begin recognizing
some of the basic sound patterns that are used to form words. Once children learn these sound patterns, they can easily use
them to decode new, unfamiliar words. The activities in this section are based on phonics patterns that are common
to English words. For example, the "-og" pattern can be combined with a number of beginning letters and letter combinations
(f, l, b, j, d, fl) to create several different words. Our activities are designed to help familiarize students with these
types of basic sound patterns. The activities are organized into two areas: Online Activities and Printable Activities.
The Online Activities engage students with both visual and auditory stimuli provided in the computing environment while
providing a fun forum to learn. The Printable Activities are more traditional ways to help children begin to learn phonics
skills and are ideal for both home and school use.
